Once my kids all go back to school next month, my 4 year old will be going with me anywhere and everywhere. Any errands I have to run, she’ll be my co-pilot. And she’ll need a distraction or two. Or three….
You pretty much get the idea.
I could take the easy route and just bring a Nintendo DS or tablet to keep her occupied. However, since she’s starting school in a little over a year, I needed ideas to get her motor skills chugging on. So I found this idea on Pinterest and couldn’t wait to try it out.
Thankfully, with school starting back up, supplies are on sale! This hack was cheap, and easy to make.
Here’s what you need:
- shoe container
- chalkboard spray paint (or regular paint, if you prefer)
Pretty much all you need to do is to paint the container lid with chalkboard paint and allow it to dry. With that your kiddo can draw pictures, write their names, anything their little tyke heart desires. Not only that, but the container can be filled with a plethora of other goodies.
Here are a few ideas:
- pack of crayons
- mini notebooks
- beads and string
- small bag of legos
- trinkets and small toys
- and of course, chalk!
I loved this idea, and she loved that is was HERS and nobody else’s. The container is small enough that we can keep it in our vehicle at all times, so it takes up only little space. The only real thing I need to worry about is my 4 year old taking it out of the van (where it belongs) into the house to play with. Oh boy!
Until next time!
